The doctors of AVIM are board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) as specialists in their respective disciplines (internal medicine or oncology).  The certification process involves prior experience and then acceptance into a program of general internal medicine studies as a resident for for at least a year which is then followed two additional years of study in the specialty of interest. A general examination is taken, case reports written, your abilities scrutinized (peer review), and then a certification examination is taken.

If you and your pet are being referred, ask about board certification.

AVIM has been approved for a training program in veterinary internal medicine under the auspices of the ACVIM. Our residents are experienced veterinarians prior to admission to the training program. Cases under their care are in good hands. Review of the cases occurs through questioning and rounds discussions. Supervision of the resident is maintained by the certified specialists.
